Visual Vocabulary

Visual elements as Point, Line, and Plane are some abstract conceptions themselves, like English letters cannot deliver meanings themselves. Only after diversified visual elements are expressed by visual vocabularies can information be delivered. The operations that synthesize visual elements into vocabularies are mainly three kinds:

Shape

In visual phenomena, Shape has two meanings: the substances on earth have their own existent state respectively; all that is visible must have its shape. Shape is the appearance of objectives and state is the physical estate of objectives. For example, water is solid under 0¢J; liquid between 0¢J--100¢J; and air above 100¢J. While shape as a kind of visual element, it refers to the visage present of the visual data when building up visual images. In visual images, data and information must be arranged into different pictures or pieces, which are lined up in the image as compounding or classifying units, and then visual sense can be generated. No matter on substance or on carrier, shape can be classified into natural shape and manual shape. Natural shape refers to all the external object visualization; while the manual shape refers to all the artificial sculpt in social life.

Geometrical figures

It is formed by mathematical calculating, or, with the variation of data, the periphery of geometrical figures vary together. The figures can be regular, symmetrical, such as rectangle, rotundity, and triangle. At the same time the figures can also be irregular, multinuclear, like star. Geometrical figures contain impressions of mechanism, repetition, and framework, giving out the impressions of concision, generalization and abstract. Shape can generate more shapes and more abstract impressions through combination, connection, subtraction, repetition, superposition, in.

Organic figures

Made up of free arcs, contain the meaning of growing up freely, or flowing freely.

Geometrical and non-geometrical figures
Organic figures made up of free arcs
Organic figures imitating nature
Solid organic figures
The natural productions are mostly organic figures

Colour

Like shape, substances on earth have their own Colours. Colour is worn by the appearance of substances. When Colour is used as visual element, it refers to using Colours to forms images in order to increase the visual tensile force and the image layers. Colours that can be used in images, including all the Colour ranks in the spectrum, such as red, orange, yellow, green, indigo, blue, purple. It also includes the variations on light-shade degree and saturation of all the Colour ranks. While Colours also include some neutral Colours such as black, white and grey.

Colours can carry psychological influence. Red Colour can heighten watchfulness.
Colours and lines can form labels. Green Colour can deliver association of environment protection.

Texture

Substances¡¦ surface is quality-sensing texture, or the texture formed by surface deal with. Quality and texture can be regarded as the original physical surface of substances, or, of which can be done by manual process. Texture can be classified into smooth and rough, or can also distribute averagely or irregularly on the surface of substances.

Material texture in realistic life can be visual vocabularies.
